PicoBNC+™ Test Leads & Probes
3m and 5m Permanent Ground Test Leads
You’ve got the smartest oscilloscope, now get smart leads Our premium PicoBNC+ leads are color-coded so that the color of the lead in the engine bay matches the color of the on-screen waveform in PicoScope Automotive – never again will you waste your time wondering which lead is which. Our premium leads are fully screened to minimize noise pickup so you can have complete confidence in the signal that you are measuring. The 3 m leads come with fixed 1.5 m ground extensions and are designed for working on most Cars and small vans. All Pico premium test leads:
- are fully shielded for the complete length of the signal cable
- are color coded BNCs for the scope connections
- have shrouded/stacking banana plugs
These Test Leads are the direct equivalents of the Premium Test Leads (TA125-TA128 for 3m, and TA199-TA202 for 5m). There are some slight changes to the cables and sleeve colouring as part of the manufacturing to fit the new PicoBNC+™ connection.
The new versions are automatically recognised by PicoScope Software when they are connected to the scope. ConnectDetect™ works as before with theses new Test Leads.
PICO-TA398 COP Probe
The TA398 COP (Coil on Plug) and signal probe from Pico Technology is the easiest and fastest non-intrusive way to find misfires fast.

Like distributors, spark plug wires are starting to disappear from cars. With the new COP ignition systems the ignition coils are connected directly to the spark plugs — eliminating the need for the spark plug wires. With no high-voltage spark wires, a COP probe is required to be able to pick up the secondary ignition waveform.
Unlike the BNC TA204 COP Probe, the connecting lead is integral to the COP Probe, and a TA033 is not required. This lead is fitted with a PicoBNC+ interface, allowing it to be recognised by the software for auto-configuration. The lead requires a PicoScope featuring the PicoBNC+ such as the 4225A or 4425A.
This is the equivalent of the existing PICO-PP357 COP and Signal Probe Kit together with the PICO-TA033 BNC to BNC Cable with Earth Clamp Lead. However, the PICO-TA398 COP Probe, the BNC lead is integral to the probe thereby eliminating the need for separate earthing.
The main body of the COP Probe is unchanged preserving the benefits of flexibility to access restricted areas. The Probe is automatically recognised by PicoScope software when it is connected to the scope.
PICO-TA499 10:1 Scope Probe and Adaptor
This is the equivalent of the existing PICO-TA375 Oscilloscope Probe and the PICO-TA197 10:1 Attenuator. The PICO-TA499 has a fixed x10 attenuation and is intended for both high-speed signals like CAN and FlexRay as well as for higher voltage signals, such as primary ignition.
The length of the earth lead has been increased on the PICO-TA499 and is also supplied with an adaptor tip allowing the Probe to be used with any of the 4mm Clips. The Probe is automatically recognised by PicoScope software when it is connected to the scope.
PICO-TA397 Secondary Ignition Pickup
Due to the high voltages involved in secondary ignition systems, it is not possible to make measurements by direct connection. Attempting to make a direct connection will almost certainly damage the measuring instrument. The TA397 is a capacitive pickup that simply connects around the insulation of an ignition circuit component such as a plug wire. This avoids the need for direct connection.
The TA397 comes with a shielded 1.8 m (6 foot) lead. It is suitable for use with conventional ignition systems and most HEI and DIS systems. Our library of Automotive Waveforms contains example waveforms captured using a PicoScope automotive oscilloscope and the TA398 or the MI074 BNC version.

This is the direct equivalent of the PICO-MI074 Secondary Ignition Pickup Lead. The new version is automatically recognised by PicoScope software when it is connected to the scope.
