Back-pinning Probes
The PICO-TA008 is a set of seven back-pinning probes
First and foremost the PICO-TA008 is a back-pinning probe. In fact, it’s the smallest diameter back-pinning probe that we know of. This is essential for probing today’s small, fragile connectors. It is also very sharp, so it slides past connector seals with ease.
This product solves most of the problems associated with traditional back-pinning methods.
The PICO-TA008 is a set of seven piercing probes
Secondly, the PICO-TA008 is a piercing probe. Its small diameter and extra sharp pin makes it ideal for piercing the insulation on small gauge wires where traditional piercing tools might cause damage.
The PICO-TA008 is a set of field-repairable probes
And finally, here’s the best part. Don’t you just hate it when you are using a back-pinning probe and it bends or breaks? Before the PICO-TA008 came along, this meant that you had to buy a whole new back-probe. Not with the PICO-TA008; it’s repairable. If the pin becomes damaged or useless in any way, simply take your pocket screwdriver, remove the set screw, pull out the old pin and install the new one! There’s no need to replace the whole probe.

Flexible Back-pinning Probes
Gaining access to connections in vehicles can sometimes be difficult. These back-pinning probes are similar to those in the PICO-TA008 Kit. They are designed for back-probing under the insulation of multi-plug terminals.
The PICO-TA161 and PICO-TA162 have a flexible section that bends to improve access to difficult areas. Each probe fits onto the 4 mm plug of our BNC to 4 mm test leads.
Note: Unlike the probes in the PICO-TA008 Kit, these probe tips are not replaceable.
Set of 5 Insulation Piercing Probes
These easy-to-use probes are aimed at technicians in automotive repair workshops, who quickly want to make a reliable connection to wiring when back-pinning is not permitted or recommended, and no suitable breakout connection is available.
Where insulation piercing is the preferred solution, these Pico probes offer outstanding performance, minimising the potential for damage to wiring and maintaining that standard over an extended lifetime of more than 5,000 insertions.
The insulation piercing probes are supplied as a set of five coloured probes allowing rapid visual identification of each connection to the coloured channels of the PicoScope.
Piercing Clips
The PICO-TA007 Insulation Piercing Test Clip set is ideally suited for automotive test and diagnosis. The piercing clips allow the user to provide the exact pressure needed to pierce the insulation of a wide range of wire types and sizes.
The clips also feature a rotating banana jack that prevents the test lead from twisting and keeps the oscilloscope in the circuit while the wire is pierced, providing immediate confirmation that contact with the conductor has been made.
They are supplied as a set of 2, one red and one black.
Operation
Piercing clips are intended for making temporary connections in the field.
The test clips feature a safety-rated shrouded banana jack that is compatible with virtually all industry-standard banana plugs, including digital multimeter plugs with or without safety shrouds.
The clips have been designed with a retractable pin and a wire-centering mechanism that securely cradles the wire regardless of size. The clips attach easily onto plastic, Teflon or silicone insulated wires using a spring-loaded double-V clamp.
Wire contact is made as the screw-in barrel drives the sharp piercing point through the insulation allowing it to make contact with the conductor. The clip is small enough to access individual wires in large bundles and sturdy enough to last in severe service.
The clip has been designed with a variety of applications in mind. It can be used with a wide range of wire sizes from tiny 0.060-inch diameter (22 AWG) to large .200-inch diameter (10 AWG).
Features
The PICO-TA007 also provides a number of other outstanding features. Uniquely designed to provide both cost-savings and convenience, it can be quickly disassembled to expose the piercing tip for any required sharpening, extending product life and eliminating the need to completely replace the test clip as with other models on the market.
The Test Clip provides further convenience with its "leave in-line" capability. Once the Test Clip has been attached to the wire, the test lead can be removed from the clip for testing at another location. Red and black color-coded barrels provide fast circuit identification, and the bright yellow body allows for easy location in low light situations.
The Adjustable Insulation Piercing Clips are compatible with most test leads that use shrouded B-plug or standard B-plugs.
The PICO-TA007 probe can be connected to the automotive oscilloscope using any BNC to 4mm test lead.
